Life With God Is Always An Adventure

Today’s Reading: Roman’s 3: 21-26

It is wonderful to know that I do not have to earn God’s love, that he will approve of, and save, me no matter what I may do.

Today’s reading reminds me of that, and it finds me at a very interesting time: I have been goofing off today. It is past noon, and I still have not written this post, which I normally complete by 7:30 a.m. or so (and, the title of this section advertises that I will have it ready by 5:00 a.m., which I rarely do).

Of course, God does not hold that against me.

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Verses 23-24)

In fact, God will love me tomorrow, even if I follow my immediate desires for the rest of  today. For two hours now, I have been drooling at the thought of  calling my friend, who I know is in a similar goof-off spirit today, and spending the rest of the afternoon playing pool, eating pizza and drinking beer with him. Heck, after that, I could even go on over to the greyhound race track and “invest” a little of that extra money I earned this month (while enjoying a couple of more cold ones, of course).

Today is a free day for me, and I’ve been working hard lately! I deserve a fun, relaxing few hours of aimless play.

Don’t I?

Actually, no, I don’t.

But God will be proud to let me have it anyway, should it be my desire.

And, for that reason alone, I suddenly realize it is not my desire after all. How can I desire to do my relaxing in any way except to glorify my wonderful God?

I am looking forward to an afternoon of God’s work.

I think I’ll go to the church and do a little of that stuff  I almost decided to preempt for pizza, pool and beer today. Then I’ll go spend some quality time with my father. I’m sure he’d love to go to the park with me again this afternoon. (It’s a beautiful day out!)  Then I’ll visit my neighbor who I’ve be neglecting lately. (Oh my, I just remembered promised to edge her yard last week. I should do that today! It will be a big blessing to her.) And tonight, I think I’ll get back to a couple of the Christian books I’ve been reading (too halfheartedly, really) for the last few weeks.

Thanks be to God for always showing me a great time!
