Moses Was Not Insane!

Today’s reading: Exodus 14:8-15

My imagination has gone wild this morning. I am chuckling at the thought of how modern news media — say CNN or CBS News — would have covered the Exodus from Egypt. I dare say Moses would have been cast as more villainous a figure than, say, North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.

Reports would offer little doubt of his insanity. The Israelis would be declared his “victims.” Other nations — even Egypt — would be encouraged to “save” them from this “tyrant”. His “propaganda” would be exposed. Anything written in support of him (probably even this devotional) would be “suspicious”, “dangerous” or even “seditious.” There would be incessant  comparisons of him to the deadly Jim Jones and other infamous cult leaders.

As a student (and teacher) of mass communication, I realize that’s how our modern media work.

Yes, I am chuckling, but it’s not really funny.

These thoughts remind me that I must always be wary of public opinion. It is often based on fear — in other words a lack of faith in God — even when it claims to be in support of “the truth.”

Thanks be to God for always being The (real) Truth. May I always have the courage to follow Him.
