The Bible is a Miracle Worker’s Toolbox

Today’s reading: Mark 10:46-52

Today’s reading brings to mind all of the  prayer requests I hear on Sundays (and then throughout most weeks via email) for various relatives, neighbors, friends and acquaintances who are sick.

I respect this tradition immensely, but I rarely bring forth requests myself these days. Publicly discussing the various health problems of my friends feels awkward, so I avoid it. Instead, I prefer to focus on Jesus’ much more direct approach to healing.

“Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.” (Verse 52)

When I hear of a friend who is suffering, I like to find the time to pay him or her a visit (or at least a phone call). I use our moments together to remind us both of God’s eternal power. Being witness to a healing connection with God is a great joy indeed.

The Bible is a miracle worker’s tool box. It is filled with simple reminders of the glory God bestows upon all who maintain faith. Using those tools to help ease suffering — of both myself and others — is one of my life’s greatest blessings.

Thanks be to God for His universal power to heal. May I (and we) remember to use it as needed.
